Each year, All Classical Portland’s Program Director John Pitman<\/strong>, selects twelve carols from our extensive Festival of Carols<\/em><\/span> library for a deep dive look into their origins. <\/span>In 2019’s list of carols<\/span><\/a>, we explored favorites like\u00a0<\/span>The First Nowell\u00a0<\/span><\/i>and\u00a0<\/span>Adeste\u00a0fidelis<\/span><\/i>. <\/span>2020\u2019s list<\/span><\/a>\u00a0included\u00a0<\/span>Riu,\u00a0riu,\u00a0chiu\u00a0<\/span><\/i>and\u00a0<\/span>The Sussex Carol.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

In this year’s list, you’ll encounter sultry Medieval ballads, surprising Victorian retrofits, indigenous Peruvian dance, macaroni, and possible Soviet assassinations.<\/span><\/p>\n
