After countless revivals without the composer&#8217;s involvement, Bernstein decided to revisit the work in 1988 to produce his ultimate version based on a revival by the Scottish Opera. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Overture features a dazzling display of musical sparks and fanfare.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-2 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<p><strong>Florence Price\u2019s Symphony No. 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Price<\/strong>&#8216;s iconic work was the first symphony by a Black woman to be performed by a major American orchestra. The work was inspired by the composer&#8217;s first trip to Mexico, and its melodies drew on those found on sheet music Copland purchased during the trip. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While visting Mexico, Copland&#8217;s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aaroncopland.com\/works\/el-salon-mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\">friend Carlos Ch\u00e1vez<\/a> took him to a nightclub called &#8220;<em>El Sal\u00f3n M\u00e9xico<\/em>.&#8221; The outing inspired Copland to incorporate elements of dance hall and the country&#8217;s complexities into his new piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-4 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<p><strong>Jeffrey Tyzik&#8217;s <em>Fantasy on American Themes<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GRAMMY Award winner <strong>Jeff Tyzik<\/strong> is one of America&#8217;s most innovative and sought-after pops conductors.
